What is Form 1098-VLI?
Form 1098-VLI is the information statement many lenders will use to report qualified passenger-vehicle loan interest to the IRS and to the borrower.
The IRS Working Families Tax Cuts pages say lenders or other recipients of qualified interest must file information returns with the IRS and furnish statements to taxpayers showing the total amount of interest received during the taxable year. The IRS also said it would provide transition relief for tax year 2025 for interest recipients subject to the new reporting requirements.
That is why many filers should expect a 1098-VLI (or similar broker statement) around January 2027 as 2026+ reporting settles. Timing can move. Watch the IRS and your lender.
What AssemblyAlert is not
This website is not Form 1098-VLI.
AssemblyAlert is a private NHTSA vPIC decode. The free tool answers one question: whether `PlantCountry` is exactly UNITED STATES (USA). The optional $4 card is a dated, printable certified decode record with a serial at `/v/{serial}` — a folder document for a preparer, not a government form.
A plant-country record does not replace a lender statement. It does not decide if a loan is deductible.
What to keep in the folder
- Lender 1098-VLI or equivalent when it arrives
- VIN (the IRS says the VIN must be on the return for any year the deduction is claimed)
- Window-sticker / Monroney final-assembly point if you have it
- Optional AssemblyAlert record for the plant-country snapshot
