Severity: HIGH Severity: HIGH (orange). Why: Jaguar Land Rover told NHTSA that failure of the DC-DC converter “will result in a loss of 12V system charging,” and that if the driver continues after the red warning, “Continuation of the journey will result in the vehicle losing motive power and coasting to a stop after a period of time, and eventually losing exterior lighting.” It states: “A loss of motive power, or of vehicle lighting, will increase the risk of a crash” (NHTSA campaign 26V599000). Loss of drive power and exterior lighting fall under HIGH; there is a red “Stop Safely Electrical Fault Detected” warning before motive power is lost, and NHTSA’s record does not set a do-not-drive or park-outside advisory.

What happened

On September 17, 2026, Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC notified NHTSA of safety recall 26V599 (campaign 26V599000, JLR recall E008). In its Part 573 Safety Recall Report, JLR says a concern was identified on certain Jaguar and Land Rover Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicles (MHEVs) where “insufficient electrical load balancing during times of high demand can lead to a current overload condition and malfunction of the DCDC converter.” Separately, “a software bug had been introduced which could cause the DCDC converter to stop functioning at vehicle start-up under certain circumstances.”

JLR describes the safety risk this way: a DC-DC converter failure “will result in a loss of 12V system charging, and a ‘Stop Safely Electrical Fault Detected’ red warning.” If the customer ignores that warning and continues to drive, “Continuation of the journey will result in the vehicle losing motive power and coasting to a stop after a period of time, and eventually losing exterior lighting.” “A loss of motive power, or of vehicle lighting, will increase the risk of a crash.”

This campaign expands earlier NHTSA recall 26V248000 (JLR campaigns D126 and H575). JLR says the new population was identified with field data and AI modelling as MHEVs through the end of the 2024 model year that use a later (“phase 2”) DC-DC converter, excluding vehicles already covered by those earlier recalls.

JLR reports 393 U.S. claims and field reports between April 2024 and September 2026 related to this concern, and says there have been no reported accidents, injuries or fires in the U.S. as a result. Its Product Safety and Compliance Committee Decision Forum directed a safety recall on September 10, 2026.

What owners should do now

  1. Check your VIN at assemblyalert.com/recalls or nhtsa.gov/recalls for campaign 26V599000.
  2. Know the warning. JLR says a red “Stop Safely Electrical Fault Detected” message appears within about 10 seconds of a DC-DC converter failure. If you see it, pull over safely and contact a Jaguar or Land Rover dealer. Do not keep driving after that warning.
  3. Get the free software update. Dealers will update the vehicle software at no charge to improve load balancing, correct the start-up bug, and add a protective limp-home mode. Interim owner letters are expected November 13, 2026, with more letters when the final remedy is available.
  4. Call Land Rover customer service at 800-637-6837 and mention recall E008.
  5. NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline: 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-888-275-9171).

You don’t need to wait for a letter to check your VIN.

FAQ

Is my Jaguar or Land Rover included?

Certain mild-hybrid 2019–2024 Range Rover Sport; 2020–2024 Range Rover, Evoque, Discovery Sport and Defender; and 2021–2024 Velar, Discovery, F-Pace and E-Pace vehicles are involved — 23,677 in total. Use a VIN check to confirm.

Will the vehicle stop without warning?

JLR says a red “Stop Safely Electrical Fault Detected” warning appears within about 10 seconds of the failure. If the driver ignores it and continues, the vehicle can later lose motive power and coast to a stop, and eventually lose exterior lighting.

Is it safe to drive?

NHTSA’s record does not set a do-not-drive or park-outside advisory for this campaign. Check your VIN. If the red electrical-fault warning appears, pull over safely and contact a dealer.

When is the fix, and what does it cost?

The software update is free. Interim letters are expected November 13, 2026; additional letters will follow when the final remedy is available. Land Rover: 800-637-6837 (E008).
